Blu has always been an old soul who was never away from home as long as I (Mom) was in sight. In his prime, he was traveling everywhere I would go that I could take him. From picking up kids from school, to spending the day at the ballpark, local travel was easy. However, a new regular out of state trip presented the need to travel with his bed so he could be comfortable on the ride as well as time spent at the destination. The bulkiness of his regular bed along with the hair and scent from everyday use (okay, okay…I definitely could’ve washed it a little more often) was not ideal and at the time just before covid, there were hardly any solutions online.
Fast forward to the Covid era, we adopted Roux in between the puppy and adult stage in hopes she would take on the laid-back, nonchalant mannerisms of big brother Blu. Well, it just doesn’t work like that! Roux is to this day very energetic, loves to play with toys, and absolutely loves when we have company. We bought her a holiday bandana that was on sale at the pet store and have cycled through seasonal bandanas ever since as it was the perfect expression of her personality.
Put those two stories together and the idea of Blu&Roux was founded based on providing a travel bed solution that comes with a lot of personality! We spent years testing through all weather elements and different types of environments making sure comfort and functionality wasn't lost through numerous washing cycles. We took a look at what didn't seem to be working with others and went through many iterations of color combinations, sizes, and materials. Always keeping in mind a greater purpose, our packaging is sustainably sourced and for every 25 beds sold, 1 is donated to a local nonprofit - Canine Assistants.
